yoga therapy
Yoga is a deeply rooted and integrative tradition for understanding and being in relationship with the self.
It offers a way of understanding the whole person, including body, breath, energy, mind, emotion, consciousness, relationship, and spiritual life.
deeply rooted, many branches
I have been fortunate to study with teachers who have shared these teachings with great depth and care, and I continue to be a student of yoga.
I try to share these practices in relationship with the larger tradition they come from, rather than pulling individual techniques away from their history, philosophy, and lineage. This matters to me, particularly in a Western culture that has so often commercialized yoga while disconnecting it from its South Asian roots.
What Yoga Therapy Can Look Like
In our work, we might use meditation, pranayama, mantra, mudra, visualization, philosophical teachings, or subtle body practices. We might explore the movement of prana, or life energy, and become curious about where you experience openness, constriction, depletion, movement, or vitality.
Yoga understands our experience as including the physical body but also extending into breath, energy, attention, consciousness, and our relationship with ourselves and the earth.
Working with the subtle body can be very subtle, or nuanced. We might notice the movement of prana, where energy feels available or depleted, or how breath, sound, gesture, and attention change the way something is experienced.
Practices such as pranayama, mantra, mudra, meditation, and visualization give us different ways of tending to this inner landscape and developing a more intimate relationship with ourselves.

For psychotherapy clients, Yoga Therapy can also be integrated into our work together. We might draw from yoga philosophy, meditation, subtle body practices, mantra, mudra, pranayama, or other practices as they become relevant to what we're exploring.
This is only available for psychotherapy clients located in the state of Oregon in the U.S.
