Brainspotting

The eyes are portals into the brain and body.

Brainspotting is a brain-body therapy that uses the eyes to access where stress, trauma, and emotional pain are held in the nervous system.

By focusing on a specific point in your visual field, called a “brainspot,” you tap into the deeper parts of the brain where unfinished experiences live. This allows your system to process and release what’s been stuck, often without needing to talk through it.

It’s a gentle but powerful way to work with overwhelm, anxiety, burnout, relationship stress, grief, and more, especially when understanding those experiences hasn’t been enough on its own.

What Is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a somatic therapy that helps your body release what your mind can’t solve.

The eyes are actually part of the brain. When we use eye position to focus on a specific spot in the visual field, we access parts of the subcortical brain that store trauma, emotional memory, and stress responses. These parts of the brain are often out of reach with talk therapy alone.

When you experience overwhelming stress, trauma, or emotional overload, your brain may store that experience in a nonverbal, subcortical way, below your conscious awareness. These unresolved imprints can live on in the body as tension, anxiety, reactivity, or shutdown, even long after the event has passed.

Brainspotting supports the body’s innate capacity to heal at the source, making space for clarity, calm, and change from the inside out.

What are some of the things brainspotting can help with?

  • Grief: When you’re overwhelmed with grief, or even frozen/ unable to feel or process it in the way you want to

  • Feeling stuck in life: You know there’s more you want to create, more to live, more on the other side of where you are, but you’re struggling to break through

  • Unresolved trauma: maybe you’ve tried talk therapy, medication, or other approaches, but past trauma still impacts your life

  • Relationship stress: Feeling burned out, lost, angry, confused, or disappointed in relationships.

  • Anxiety and Overwhelm: Hypervigilance, difficulty sleeping, panic, an overthinking mind, avoidance, feeling like things are just too much.

  • Creative aliveness: Brainspotting can also help expand your creative self, find ways through blocks, and guide you back to yourself.

  • Self Confidence: Self criticism, shame spirals, feelings of unworthiness or imposter syndrome

  • Spirituality: Brainspotting can help you connect to your spiritual self if this has felt elusive.
